App Embed Status Shows "Unknown" or "Action Needed"
Problem:
The dashboard shows "Action needed" or the theme management modal shows "Unknown" status for a theme.
Situation | Cause | Solution |

"Action needed" badge | A theme has the app embed enabled but no theme type is selected | Go to Dashboard → Manage app embed, enable "Show theme types", and select the correct theme type for that theme |
"Unknown" status on a theme | The app cannot automatically detect whether the embed is enabled | Click "Manage" to open the Shopify Theme Editor and manually verify that the app embed is turned on |
"Unknown" on a demo theme | Demo themes do not fully support embed status detection | This is expected behavior. Demo themes may show "Unknown" even if properly configured |
If swatches are working correctly on the storefront, an "Unknown" status on a demo theme can usually be ignored.
